During today's episode of Pokémon Presents, additional information regarding the functioning of the gym system in Pokémon GO was disclosed.

Scarlet and Violet are effective Pokémon. You will play the role of a student at an academy, and one of your assignments will be to compete against and defeat some of the most skilled trainers in the region. To be expected, however demanding.

Depending on the version of the game you own, you will either be attending Narania (Scarlet) or Uva for your higher education (Violet). As a required element of your education, you will participate in a "treasure hunt" that will take place all across the Paldea region. In contrast to the gym tasks, which only have a single narrative path each, the treasure hunt offers three distinct paths to follow. 

Therefore, in addition to the time-honored custom of bringing down the gym leaders, you can certainly anticipate a lot more content that spans a wider area.

There are still eight more leaders to defeat before you can achieve the "champion rank," but the road to victory is waiting for you at the conclusion of the adventure. In addition, the leader of the Glaseado Gym, Grusha, who utilizes ice-type Pokémon such as the new Cetitan, was shown in the teaser.

The trailer provided confirmation of what had been tweeted earlier by an official Pokémon account. You are not required to stomp on the gym leaders in a certain order; rather, you are free to pick when you do so. A welcome departure from the series' established pattern is to loosen up the requirements for players by letting them tackle gyms in any way they see fit.

I recall back when choosing Charmander was the "difficult mode" of the Kanto games. This was because the fire was bad against the rock and water gyms, and not particularly effective against the electric ones. 

Those that chose Chikorita in the Johto games encountered a problem of the same nature. The gym system introduced by Scarlet and Violet fully levels the playing field for every beginning Pokémon, and I couldn't be happier about it.

This is not the first time that Pokémon has dabbled with a non-traditional approach to the gym battle format. In the Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon video games, gyms have been replaced by something called "trials," in which players occasionally have to solve puzzles rather than competing against the gym leaders (or battling the trainers who are working at the gym). 

In contrast to what Scarlet and Violet had previously portrayed, the plot remained quite uncomplicated and straightforward.

On November 18, 2022, Scarlet and Violet will become playable characters on the Nintendo Switch.
